News of 1961: A "Swim-In" on Fort Lauderdale Beach
Description
This newscast shows clips of a swim-in on Fort Lauderdale Beach that took place in 1961. Similarly to the clips from the 1959 Crandon Beach wade-in, the participants were met with little violence on behalf of law enforcement and white beach goers, and no arrests were made. Like other Civil Rights events, this was a non-violent form of protest.
